"In 2023, from November 9 to 18, after an edition marked by the return to the format of close communion between the public and the musicians that is characteristic of this festival and by a tone of assumed celebration given the circumstances of the reopening of the world after a period of temporary paralysis, Guimarães Jazz faces a scenario in profound transformation, a transformation that now seems not only technological or aesthetic, but a real change in the pure functioning of the system. As such, the line-up for its thirty-second edition may be considered more circumspect and intellectually demanding in terms of its proposals, but, as has always been the case throughout the history of this festival, it continues to favor the primacy of diversity and independent choice, aware that it is the decisions of the present that determine the future, which is still unknown. In general terms, the 2023 programme is characterized, as it always is, by a balance between tradition and innovation and by the stylistic, geographical and generational eclecticism of the proposals and the musicians taking part in them. However, this does not prevent us from recognizing that this edition pays particular attention to the New York jazz scene of today and to expressions of an experimental tendency, which are increasingly prevalent in the language of contemporary jazz. It is also worth highlighting the significant presence of European musicians in practically all the projects presented, a clear sign of the definitive decentralization of the jazz phenomenon in relation to its territory of origin."

“Em 2023, de 9 a 18 de Novembro, depois de uma edição marcada pelo regresso ao formato de comunhão estreita entre o público e os músicos caraterística deste festival e por um tom de assumida celebração dadas as circunstâncias de reabertura do mundo após um período de paralisação temporária, o Guimarães Jazz enfrenta um cenário em transformação profunda, uma transformação que se afigura agora não apenas tecnológica ou estética, mas uma verdadeira mudança de puro funcionamento do sistema. Assim sendo, o alinhamento da sua trigésima segunda edição pode ser eventualmente considerado mais circunspecto e intelectualmente exigente em termos das suas propostas, mas, tal como sempre aconteceu ao longo da história deste festival, continua a privilegiar o primado da diversidade e da escolha independente, ciente de que são as decisões do presente que determinam o futuro por enquanto incógnito. Em termos gerais, o programa de 2023 é caracterizado, tal como sempre acontece, pelo equilíbrio entre a tradição e a inovação e pelo ecletismo estilístico, geográfico e geracional das propostas e dos músicos que nelas participam. A constatação desta evidência não impede, porém, o reconhecimento de que nesta edição se presta uma atenção particular à cena jazzística nova-iorquina da atualidade e às expressões de tendência experimental, cada vez mais preponderantes na linguagem do jazz contemporâneo, sendo também de destacar a significativa presença de músicos europeus em praticamente todos os projetos apresentados, um sinal evidente do descentramento definitivo do fenómeno jazzístico em relação ao seu território de origem.”
